Are Solar Panels Worth It in the Midlands?

The honest answer: for most Midlands homes, yes — but not for everyone, and not always right now. These guides give you the unspun financial case so you can decide whether solar is worth it for your specific property.

1

The honest financial case

A typical 4kW system saves £700–£950 a year and pays back in 8–11 years, then runs near-free for another 14+ years. Add a battery and you cut bills harder but stretch the payback. Over 25 years the saving is £18,000–£24,000 in real terms — before assuming any further electricity price rises.

2

When solar makes most sense

Strongest cases: high daytime electricity use, an EV or heat pump, a south/east/west roof with little shading, and plans to stay put a few years. If your bills are high and your roof is decent, solar is one of the few home improvements that pays you back rather than just costing money.

3

When it might pay to wait

Heavy shading, a roof due for re-tiling, a north-only aspect, or an imminent house move can all weaken the case. We will tell you honestly if your property is a poor fit — a benchmark survey models your real numbers, and "not yet" is sometimes the right answer.

All package prices assume every panel fits on a single roof elevation. The price covers the cost of scaffolding to one elevation. If your roof needs scaffolding on more than one elevation, or has restricted access, that additional cost is quoted separately after survey. Prices include VAT. Domestic solar and battery storage is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027. Subject to a free technical survey. We will confirm the final price in writing before any work is booked.
