What is the lifespan of a Fox ESS battery?▼
Fox ESS warrants its EP6 and EP12 batteries for 10 years from installation, to at least 70% of rated capacity or a set energy throughput (21.6MWh for an EP6, 43.19MWh for an EP12), whichever comes first. At one full cycle a day that throughput lasts beyond the ten years, and LiFePO4 cells fade gradually rather than stopping dead. We register the warranty with Fox ESS for you at handover.
Can I charge a Fox ESS battery from the grid?▼
Yes. Fox ESS hybrid systems support scheduled grid charging through the Fox ESS app: set a charging window overnight on an off-peak tariff and the battery fills at the cheap rate, then runs your home through the expensive peak hours. Solar still takes priority whenever it's generating. We set those schedules up for you as part of commissioning.

Fox ESS installation: what a certified install includes
A Fox ESS battery install is a full electrical installation, not a box on a wall — the difference shows up in safety, performance and whether your warranty holds. Midland Solar has been installing renewables since 2009; every Fox ESS install is MCS-certified work by NAPIT-registered electricians, with HIES consumer protection. Here's what's included.
Survey and consumption analysis. A free home survey plus your actual usage — bills or smart-meter data — so the battery is sized to your real evening and overnight load, not a guess.
Hybrid or AC-coupled design. Installing solar and storage together, a Fox ESS hybrid inverter (the H1 range on most homes) runs both through one unit. Adding a battery to solar you already own, an AC-coupled setup leaves the working array untouched. We quote whichever suits.
Safe siting. Battery-siting good practice for homes follows PAS 63100, the BSI fire-safety specification for battery storage in dwellings: units stay out of escape routes and living spaces, so we favour the garage, utility room or an outbuilding, with clear space around the battery. The EP6 and EP12 are IP65-rated, so an external wall can also work where the survey supports it.
DC and AC integration. Correct cabling, isolation and circuit protection on both sides of the inverter, tested and certificated to BS 7671.
Commissioning and app setup. Firmware updated, work modes configured, and the Fox ESS app running on your phone before we leave — charge schedules set up for you, not left as homework.
DNO notification. Every grid-connected battery must be notified to your distribution network operator. We handle the paperwork: G98 notification for systems up to 3.68 kW per phase, or a G99 application agreed before connection for anything larger.
Handover and warranty registration. Your MCS and electrical certificates, the product warranty registered with Fox ESS in your name, and our 2-year workmanship guarantee in writing.
