New Build Solar Installation

Meet Part L Building Regulations and reduce carbon emissions with solar panels designed into your new build from the start. Save up to 20% compared to retrofit installations.

Part L Building Regulations and Solar

The updated Part L Building Regulations, in effect since June 2022, require all new homes to produce significantly less carbon emissions than previous standards. This represents a critical step towards the Future Homes Standard planned for 2025, which will require new homes to be zero-carbon ready.

For developers and self-builders, solar panels offer the most practical and cost-effective route to Part L compliance. Unlike other renewable technologies, solar can be integrated seamlessly into the build process, requires minimal ongoing maintenance, and provides a tangible benefit that adds value to the completed property.

At Midland Solar, we specialise in working with developers, builders, and self-builders across the Midlands to ensure new build projects meet and exceed Part L requirements. Our MCS certified installations provide the documentation needed for Building Control sign-off and help achieve the SAP calculations required for compliance.

Why Solar for New Builds?

Installing solar during the build phase offers significant advantages over retrofitting later.

15-20% Lower Cost

Save thousands by installing during the build when scaffolding is already in place and electrical first-fix is underway.

Part L Compliance

Meet the 31% carbon reduction requirement with solar. We provide all SAP calculation data needed for Building Control.

Optimal Design

Plan panel placement during the design phase for maximum generation. Roof orientation and pitch can be optimised from the start.

Warranty Protection

Installing during build means no risk of disturbing roof tiles or voiding roof warranties. Everything is done in the correct sequence.

EPC Rating A

New builds with solar typically achieve EPC rating A, the highest possible. This adds significant value and marketability to the property.

No Disruption

Solar installation is integrated into the build programme. No need to arrange separate access, scaffolding, or disruption to occupants.

Who We Work With

Installation Timeline

1

Design Stage

Before build starts

We review architectural plans and advise on optimal panel placement, system size, and electrical routing. SAP calculations provided for Building Control.

2

Electrical First Fix

During build phase

Cables and conduit are installed during the electrical first-fix stage, running from the proposed inverter location to the roof space. This avoids costly retrospective wiring.

3

Panel Installation

After roof completion

Panels are installed once the roof is weathertight and while scaffolding is still in place. Typically takes 1-2 days per plot for residential systems.

4

Commissioning

Before handover

System is fully commissioned, tested, and registered with MCS. All documentation provided for Building Control sign-off and homeowner handover packs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Part L of the Building Regulations sets standards for the conservation of fuel and power in new buildings. Since June 2022, the updated Part L requires new homes to produce approximately 31% less carbon emissions than previous standards. Solar panels are one of the most effective and cost-efficient ways to meet these requirements, often making the difference between passing and failing compliance assessments.
