Do solar panels need maintenance?
Quick answer: Minimal maintenance required. Rain keeps them clean, with occasional checks recommended.
Solar Panel Maintenance Guide
One of the great advantages of solar panels is their low maintenance requirements. With no moving parts, they're designed to operate trouble-free for decades.
Routine Cleaning
In most UK locations, rain keeps panels clean enough to operate efficiently. However, occasional cleaning may benefit performance:
- Annual cleaning recommended in areas with high pollution or dust
- Clear leaves, bird droppings, or debris as needed
- Use clean water and soft brush/cloth — no harsh chemicals
- Consider professional cleaning for hard-to-reach installations
Visual Inspections
We recommend an annual visual check for:
- Physical damage to panels
- Debris or shading from new tree growth
- Secure mounting and tidy cabling
- Inverter status lights (green = normal)
Monitoring Your System
All our installations include monitoring apps that show real-time and historical performance. This makes it easy to spot any issues early.
Professional Servicing
While not essential, we offer optional annual service packages including inspection, cleaning, and performance optimisation for complete peace of mind.

All package prices assume every panel fits on a single roof elevation. The price covers the cost of scaffolding to one elevation. If your roof needs scaffolding on more than one elevation, or has restricted access, that additional cost is quoted separately after survey. Prices include VAT. Domestic solar and battery storage is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027. Subject to a free technical survey. We will confirm the final price in writing before any work is booked.
